Part A:

2. The background’s color is light, which was pleasant while reading the posts. There were enough information to learn something about German culture.
3. The blog looked neat and well taken care of because the author posted each post properly. Each post had a title and I knew what most posts referred to. There were also pictures so it was interesting to look at them.
4. Informative quality: 5
5. Readability: 5
6. The same

2. The blog seems a bit bland. It could have been livelier with more colors and images for example. It makes it less interesting when there is not enough pictures. There were information to learn about German culture.
3. The author probably cares about his blog because he made sure to include titles but he could have paid attention to the overall look.
4. Informative quality: 4
5. Readability: 4
6. worse

2. The blog lacks information. For example, there were no titles for most posts so I had to read paragraphs to know the topics. The author could have personalized his blog and make it more original. There were few visuals, which did not help while reading.
3. Maybe the author could have showed that he cares for his blog because it did not look like it. There is a lack of involvement for the overall look of the block.
4. Informative quality: 3
5. Readability: 3
6. worse

Part B:

In this class I learned that Germany is divided into states and has a population of approximatively 80 million. I also enjoyed doing research about the dishes that Germans eat. I learned about the kind of music that was popular in Germany in the 1980’s and 1990’s. I also learned about the music that is popular among a certain group of young Germans nowadays. I learned about German poets and writers and I was happy to see that there were several women who received prizes for their work. I enjoyed reading the book assigned; I found it very educating. I had heard about the “lost generation” before taking this course but I never completely understood this concept until I read the book by Erich Remarque. The book was sad but I remember laughing most of the time because the characters were endearing. Studying the book was what I liked the most about the class. I liked the idea of posting on a blog too. I learned more by doing some research to write a post than watching other students’ presentations. Even though I understand the idea behind making students do presentations so the whole class can learn about German culture, I had a hard time enjoying the presentations. I learned more about Germany by doing some research for my posts and by listening to the instructor’s explanations. I learned a lot from the movie The Baader Meinhof Complex. I did not know how terrorism began and the reasons behind terrorists’ actions. Overall I learned a great amount of information about German culture and I am glad I took this class because my knowledge has expanded. I did not learn a lot of information from the presentations but I learned by doing research. Assigning the book reading, and showing the movies in class were effective. The research and the posts on the blog were also useful to learn about German culture. It may just apply to me but the presentations do not help learning much about the culture and they were not interesting most of the time.

The Baader Meinhof Complex

The Baader Meinhof Complex (German: Der Baader Meinhof Komplex) is a film directed by Uli Edel, which tells the story of a group of four Germans who carry out the fire bombing of a department store in response to the death of a young protester. The young protester was killed while protesting against the ruling of the government of Iran by a police officer. The group shared the beliefs of the man killed, and is put on trial for the bombing. They are defended by a lawyer who understands and shares their beliefs. After leaving prison, the group grows by appealing to more young Germans and calls itself the Red Army Faction. While it grows, it get involves in many criminal acts, which bring upon the police’s attention. The founders of the group are eventually captured by the police and die following a hunger strike they initiated.

A new generation of the RAF arises to pursue the mission of the founders. This new group carries out more kidnapping and killing but they make the decision not to attack civilians. At some point, the amount of members that are caught increases so the members who have not been caught smuggled weapons to the members in prison so they could commit suicide as a sign of protestation.
